It may not be a headliner that draws many eyes, but UFC Vegas 73: Dern vs. Hill is a surprisingly alright offering from the UFC this week. The main event features two top ranked strawweights looking to reassert their claim to a spot among the division’s elite, and it should make for an interesting style clash. Edmen Shahbazyan vs. Anthony Hernandez is a quality test of still young middleweight prospects. And Andre Fialho vs. Joaquin Buckly should be fireworks for as long as it lasts. The UFC’s certainly made worse cards.
This week’s UFC Vegas 73: Dern vs. Hill prelims offering has a couple strong bookings. Maheshate vs. Borshchev looks like a slugfest from start to finish, and Vanessa Demopoulos has looked strong in her recent winning run. Chase Hooper will be worth watching up in his new division, and Natalia Silva has the appearance of a future flyweight contender in what’s essentially a showcase fight against Victoria Leonardo. Exactly the kind of fights we should be getting on the prelims of a smaller event.

The next event after UFC on ABC 4 Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs Almeida, will be UFC Vegas 73, which is of course broadcasting from the APEX Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our main event had been slotted to be Raquel Pennington vs. Irene Aldana; however, Aldana was rebooked to face Amanda Nunes in place of Juliana Peña at UFC 289. The headliner for UFC Vegas 73 is now booked as Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill, which had previously been slotted for this weekend’s main card.
