Josh Quayhagen vs. Rafael Aghayev headlines Karate Combat 40 | Karate Combat

Karate Combat 40 is kicking of this Saturday (June 24th) from Miami, Florida with their unique professional full contact Karate league continuing to build stream. If MMA is the middle ground for martial arts, and bare knuckle boxing goes one way, well then this KC sport goes entirely in the other direction. Don’t get me wrong, radical knockouts are routine, but there is an undeniable elegance to the Karate Combat events.

The marquee matchup of the night has a welterweight title unification tilt transpiring when the returning 170-pound champion, Josh Quayhagen, squares off the interim champ, Rafael Aghayev. While Quayhagen was on the sideline, the 2020 silver medalist Olympian for Azerbaijan went and defeated the great Raymond Daniels at KC 37 to become the promotion’s interim welterweight champion. With Josh now back in the picture, it’s time to unify the titles. Expect both fighters to romp on the accelerator here the entire time.

In the card’s co-main event, former GLORY/Bellator kickboxing champion, Gabriel Varga, will clash with former KC lightweight king, Edgars Skrivers. Varga has won multiple kickboxing titles, and is now looking to add a world championship belt in Karate to his mantle. He will first have to get through a hungry Skrivers, who was KC’s inaugural lightweight champion, and who badly wants his belt back. I’m expecting a gritty war between these two.
